Easy Dairy Free Hot Chocolate Recipe

Burr! It's been freezing here in North Carolina. I feel like I'm back in New England! All I want when the weather is cold like this, is to snuggle up in a blanket, watching Netflix, and drinking yummy hot chocolate. Thanks to my milk allergy, I can't have any of the normal powder packs of hot chocolate. Boo! Luckily for me (and you) I've figured out a super easy, super chocolaty dairy free hot chocolate recipe to whip up on cold days and nights. Let's get to it!

Dairy Free Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:

~2 cups of original Almond Milk (or your favorite milk substitute)

~5 (or 6 to taste) squares of Lindt Excellence 70% Cocoa Smooth Dark Chocolate

~1 tablespoon of sugar

~1 pinch of salt

That's it! This recipe makes 2 mugs (or 1 XL mug) or super chocolaty delicious hot chocolate.

*Note: You can use any dairy free chocolate you prefer! I recommend staying around 70% dark or else the chocolate tastes like bitter bakers chocolate. You can also swap the sugar out for your preferred sweetener.

Steps:

1. Add milk to saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and stir in chocolate squares one at a time.

2. Continue stirring until chocolate squares have melted. Don't let them sit or they can stick to the bottom and burn!

3. Stir in sugar and salt.

3. Turn off heat, pour into mug, let it sit for 5 minutes, and enjoy!

Clearly I chose the extra-large mug. I hope you like it! Let me know if you try it :)

  2. yummy! I love hot chocolate, but always worry about the dairy as I try to avoid eating dairy when I can. This is a great alternative - thanks for sharing!

  3. Yum. Yum. Yum. I used to drink hot chocolate every single day when I was a kid, then it carried over into my coffee addiction and now a mocha latte obsession. Hot chocolate is the perfect drink to warm you up on freezing days like we've been having here in the South east!
